Scars

My body is mine
It bleeds.
Has a horror of knives,
Of cutting,
Of poking and prodding and
Violation.
My body is strong;
I’ve endured
Invasion
Degradation
My skin has been sliced
I’ve bled;
A trickle of red
My life followed it,
Ebbing and failing.
I’ve been beaten;
A steady drumming rhythm on my veins
A man repeating endlessly
“Sorry sorry sorry”
As I floated
In between
worlds.
A nothingness
One moment there
Then not there,
I ceased to exist
Obliterated.
My body has suffered;
Gives life, rejects life
Only one scar
Bears silent witness
The rest
Unseen.
